Alzheimer’s Administrative Assistants
To Receive “Flower Power Award”
Wesley Berry Flowers in West Bloomfield is providing the Alzheimer’s Association of Michigan with free rose bouquets for their Administrative Assistants for their dedication and service. On Wednesday, April 25 which is Administrative Professionals Day seven workers will receive the first “Flower Power Award” to be given by Wesley Berry Flowers. “We would not be able to function without the dedicated support staffs who work for us. I am grateful for the recognition of their fine work,” said Dian Wilkins, President.
According to the most recent Department of Labor statistics more than 4,126,000 administrative assistants and secretaries were employed in the United States.
In today’s business world these individuals are required to do much more than write letters, file papers, answer phone calls and schedule appointments - still the basis for any successfully run office. Computers and a global economy now make it necessary to be able to do word processing, mail merge, data entry, e-mail, Power Point, teleconferencing, reports, data mining, Photoshop, and manage a web site. They may be asked to become involved in PR, accounting, and/or marketing to some degree as part of their jobs.
Many of these professionals also handle a variety of duties that are never found in any job description. Bosses may ask them to purchase gifts for friends and family members on birthdays and holidays. Some may house sit or pet sit. Others are asked to pick up dry cleaning, or children from school, or serve as wait staff at a private party at their boss’s home. Many give up weekends or evenings with their families to meet important deadlines for which they are never compensated.
